Zanzibar. They had a dream--a
dream that they would spend their sunset years blissfully in a beach
house in Africa. French couple Francois Cherer Robert Daniel and
Brigette Mery, both in their 60s, settled on Zanzibar as their preferred
retirement home.
The couple sold their sole property, a castle in a
village near the city of Mulhouse close to the border with Germany, and
travelled over 67,000 kilometres to make their dream come true.
The journey brought them to the quiet village of
Matemwe on the northeast coast of the Spice Island early last year. They
immediately fell in love with the long shoreline with white sandy
beaches from Matemwe, Pwani Mchangani and down to Uroa.
Joyfully, the couple plotted the exciting new
chapter in their lives. Little did they know that they would soon be
lying dead, buried deep in a well in the retirement home they had longed
for .
