The ‘posho’ ghost continues to send shivers up the spines of Katiba MPs, as more within their ranks complain their current sitting allowance – currently at Sh 220,000 - does not cover the bare necessities.
CCM lawmaker Richard Ndassa (Sumve) told our
reporters their daily allotment is the “equivalent of what Katiba Team
drivers were paid,” a situation he described as “unacceptable.”
“Members of the Constitutional Review Commission
were paid Sh 500,000/- per day, [but] we only get Sh 220,000 – and you
actually have to attend all sessions and sign for that.”
“I just don’t get it,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Kishapu MP Suleiman
Nchambi, who argued these paltry ‘poshos’ will make life particularly
hard for those new to the Dodoma political scene.
“Some of us are used to life in Dodoma – we’ve
learnt to just get by [but] with these allowances, the newcomers will
have a rather hard time,” he said.
In an effort to calm the ‘posho’ storm, interim
chair of the Katiba Assembly Pandu Ameir Kificho promised to raise the
issue with the Kikwete administration to see if allowances could be
nudged a bit higher.
