Protecting children form societal pressure

Mr Owere
SThe atmosphere at various schools in this modern age has led to a host of what are characterized as ‘bad acts’ to be on the rising.
Many students succumb to societal pressures which entail; doing drugs, smoking, pressured to drink alcohol, engage in sexual activities, and a lot more acts that portray morality decadence.
As parents, legal guardians and adults living in the same society as the youths who practice such appalling acts, we are vested with the responsibility of ensuring that moral uprightness is upheld by the young generation. What then can be done so as to deter the furtherance of such acts by students in various schools?
Forbid use of tobacco or any narcotic by students, staff, and visitors at the school compound or anywhere close to the school vicinity.
The pressure which is fostered by observing other people, especially adults engaging in acts such as smoking around the school compound can have a great effect on the students who eventually try to emulate what they see. Banning the use of cigarettes and associated drugs will greatly help the students stay focused on studies.
Monitor peer groups at school it is very apparent that not all students who go to school have been raised in the same way; some of them come from backgrounds which saw them living under harsh conditions that changed their social behaviour and compelled them to enter into a life of delinquency.
Having such students interacting with the more upright students will contaminate the overall moral uprightness of all students. What teachers or parents can do is ensure that students whose conduct has been polluted seek the right help, thereby also saving those who are still innocent.
Follow-up on your child’s performance at school – if parents or legal guardians become indifferent toward their kid’s performance at school, this provides him/her (the child) an opportunity to disregard their studies and concentrate on other activities which are often immoral.
As the first thing that we have to consider when trying to correct the wrong acts of a child is getting to know the provenance of the act and what made them engage in such an act.
