Orkesumet. Manyara regional
commissioner Elaston Mbwilo has said that the process of constructing a
district hospital for Simanjiro should begin as soon as possible.
He gave the directive here last week after inaugurating a Sh39 million medical store at the district headquarters.
During the event, the senior medical officer at
Orkesumet Health Centre, Dr Juma Nahonyo, told the RC that the facility
would be of little significance because the district does not have a
hospital.
The RC said that Orkesumet, the district
headquarters, was fast growing, therefore there was a dire need to have a
district hospital to cater for the need of the rising number of
patients as population increased.
In his report, Dr Nahonyo said, the vast district,
inhabited mainly by the nomadic pastoralists, had 32 dispensaries and
five health centres. A health centre run by the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Tanzania (ELCT) in the area is currently used as a designated
district hospital.
The district social welfare officer, Mr Sammy Mulemba, also echoed the need to build a district hospital for Simanjiro.
He underlined the public private partnership arrangement in realising the district hospital construction project.
Simanjiro was created in 1994 following the subdivision of Kiteto District.
